How to Wear a Face Mask Without Steaming up your Glasses
1. Snug and secure
The first thing to make sure of is that your mask is sitting snug and securely behind the rims of your frames.
If donning a disposable surgical mask, ensure the edge with the hidden wire strip is at the top and is pressed down to your nose bridge and cheeks. With a washable fabric covering or surgical mask, adjusting the ear loops so that the top of the mask follows the contour of your nose and cheeks will also help divert condensation away from your lenses.
2. Tissue the Issue
Roll up a sheet of tissue so that it neatly fits across the top of your mask. Secure it along the inside top edge with some surgical tape, creating a buffer to capture the moisture from your breath.
Ensure that it’s comfortable and not causing the front of your frames to sit higher on your face than usual. You may need to experiment with the thickness of tissue to find what works best for you.
3. Soap it Up
Wash the front of your glasses in lukewarm water adding a small amount of mild soap or baby shampoo. Let the lenses air-dry or use a soft clean tissue to speed up the process. Once dry, this will leave a temporary anti-mist layer on the lenses.
4. Loop the Loop
Depending on how tight your mask fits, double looping the ear loops can help to keep it secure at the top edge whilst creating a small opening at the side. This will divert more of your breath towards your ears rather than rising up to your glasses.
